The BMW X5, Audi Q7 or the Mercedes-Benz GLE have now an official competitor in the shape of the Genesis GV80 luxury SUV, set to officially debut in just a couple of days. Today, the long-awaited SUV was revealed in two teaser videos and photos which can be seen below.
The making of the SUV dates back in 2017 when it was first previewed as a concept at the New York Auto Show. Gradually, the project became a reality and will turn out to be a worthy competitor to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz, Audi or BMW.
The South Korean carmaker released the two teaser video on YouTube and ask “When was the last time you`ve experienced something for the first time?” However, just like any other teaser video, it says almost nothing about the car`s shape, interior tweaks or anything else. It is a good thing we have previous leaked images that give us a clue about the design language.
Estethically, the 2020 Genesis GV80 will adopt a more down-to-earth design language than the much more sophisticated Concept. However, we would have preferred the latter`s slimmer and more advanced grille. The GV80 will feature instead a massive pentagonal grille along with quad lamps, which is rather the same one found on the newly announced 2020 G90.
Introduced as “the first SUV by Genesis”, the 2020 GV80 will be high-tech inside the cabin as well. There will be a lot of high-end materials on the dashboard and seats, as well as a two-spoke steering wheel which provides a sportier feel. Also, the conventional buttons for the dash will be minimalistic, while the traditional gear-lever will be replaced with a rotating, jewel-like electronic gear selector. The infotainment system will also come with a standalone touch-screen, along with a digital instrument panel.
As for motorization, it is believed that the 2020 Genesis GV80 would first come with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 offered with 274 horsepower and 589 Nm of torque, and hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Later on, the South Korean carmaker would also introduce a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder, developing 300 horsepower and 422 Nm of torque. Both engines will be sold in the United States.
Not long ago, Genesis also announced the introduction of the G90 in the large luxury sedan segment, the model becoming thus a worthy competitor for the new BMW 7-Series, Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Audi A8.
The 2020 Genesis G90 is a completely new car, and the changes are instantly visible at the exterior. Thanks to the company`s new design language called “Athletic Elegance”, the luxury sedan looks more mature yet retains the same classic stance.
Inside, things are brought to a whole new level, thanks to the high-end materials and technology at its best. And yes, it is the same technology you can find on the new 7-Series or brand-new Audi A8, only it comes standard. So, you don’t have to cash in for additional features. Standard is the 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along the plethora of safety features, also coming as standard. These include rear cross traffic alert, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, or Safe Exit Assist, the latter one waning the driver of oncoming traffic when the door is open. There is also the manufacturer`s Highway Driving Assist system with adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, both being semi-autonomous systems that keep track of bumper-to-bumper traffic on the highway.
