VW ID. Buzz – Electrifying the Streets of the UK https://automotivesblog.com/vw-id-buzz-electrifying-the-streets-of-the-uk/ https://automotivesblog.com/vw-id-buzz-electrifying-the-streets-of-the-uk/#respond Sun, 31 Dec 2023 11:44:21 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=5419 More]]> Introduction – A Journey of Nostalgia with Volkswagen`s ID. Buzz

When it comes to electrifying vehicles, Volkswagen ID. Buzz stands out as a nostalgic adventure that tugs at the heartstrings like no other model in the German automaker’s lineup. Beyond the skepticism and marketing efforts, the ID. Buzz represents a fusion of past and future – a mystery machine that captures the essence of flower power for our times. We had the opportunity to experience it in Copenhagen and extensively in the UK. Now, we will delve into all its details to give you a comprehensive review.

VW ID. Buzz 13

First Impressions – The Transformation from Prototype Disappointment to Production Marvel

Witnessing how the ID. Buzz evolved from its prototype stage to becoming a fledged production model is nothing of remarkable. While the initial version, which was partially camouflaged, left much to be desired in terms of quality and performance dynamics, Volkswagen has truly delivered on its promise by creating a product that is refined in every aspect. While paying homage to its ancestor—the 1950 T1 Beetle-based microbus—the ID. Buzz undergoes a metamorphosis with its motor strategically placed between its rear wheels.

Mechanics – Exploring the MEB Platform and Performance Statistics

The ID. Buzz proudly sits on top of the Volkswagen`s Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB) platform—an engineering marvel designed for electric vehicles. This advanced platform provides a foundation for delivering performance statistics while embracing sustainable mobility principles.

VW ID. Buzz 14

The Buzz model from Volkswagen offers powertrain and performance specifications as part of their ID car rollout. The available version comes with a 201bhp motor that is powered by a 77kWh battery pack. Initially, it focused on a seven-seater configuration, however, there are plans for additional releases including a long wheelbase version and 4Motion All Wheel Drive options. Looking ahead to 2025, Volkswagen has plans in store with the promise of a 340bhp variant and the potential for a GTX model with 400bhp signaling a future.

Driving Experience – Performance, Handling, and Driving Dynamics

While the ID. Buzz may not match the torque delivery found in some other high-end electric vehicles, it still offers an exceptional driving experience. Its weight and drag coefficient contribute to a speed of 90mph prioritizing flow over aggressive acceleration. With its wheelbase, calibrated suspension and responsive steering, it surprisingly maneuvers well even in urban environments. Despite its van appearance the ID. Buzz provides a ride thanks to its spring and damper calibration.

VW ID. Buzz 12

Interior Design – A Combination of Practicality and Futuristic Style

The interior design of the ID. Buzz is a mix of freshness and nostalgia. The materials used are sturdy and functional prioritizing practicality over luxury. Inside, the ambiance subtly reminds passengers that “this is an impressive people mover, not a private jet.” The dashboard floating touchscreen, despite some known issues with the VW`s system, offers features like Park Assist Plus to demonstrate the car’s capabilities in tight spaces. While the plastics feel durable, the overall interior design focuses on being practical.

VW ID. Buzz 3

Beyond looking good, this car excels in utility and practicality. It has plenty of cabin space and the rear seats can be adjusted individually to create cargo room when needed. The power-operated sliding doors make it easy to access the rear passenger area. By combining elements from the microbus with practicality, the ID. Buzz becomes an option for transporting people.

VW ID. Buzz 8

Prices

While it may not hold the title of the best electric microbus option on the market, there’s no denying its charm. Nevertheless, the starting price of £58k does raise some eyebrows limiting its accessibility mainly to those who are eager to embrace innovation early on. With 130,000 units planned per year starting in 2024, it remains uncertain whether this electrifying blast from the past will be able to meet the overwhelming demand.

How To Discover if Your Vehicle Is Defective https://automotivesblog.com/how-to-discover-if-your-vehicle-is-defective/ https://automotivesblog.com/how-to-discover-if-your-vehicle-is-defective/#respond Wed, 22 Feb 2023 13:06:29 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=4911 More]]> As a common ground, manufacturers and dealers are guaranteed that even all of their vehicles disseminated to consumers are safe to drive. Vehicles sold to consumers by manufacturers and dealers are expected to be safer to drive.

It does not happen by default. That is why manufacturers are undertaking the repair campaigns of their cars as a routine habit. Nonetheless, there are well-hidden defects often encountered in many cars that prevent the manufacturer from ever disclosing this information, and over the years this has resulted in class action suits.

In the last decade, we’ve witnessed a number of class action lawsuits over defective vehicles, being one of the most popular cases leading the headlines in this area.

Popular Class Action Lawsuits Over Defective Vehicles

Popular Class Action Lawsuits Over Defective Vehicles Ford Maverick Defective Airbags
2022 Ford Maverick – Airbag Problems

Ford now has an airbag class action lawsuit against the company after it was found that the defective airbags were not swapped out in the 2022 Ford Maverick by the company. This same again was a critical issue when it came to both the driver and passenger security.

Honda Motor Co. is faithfully in the same condition as Ford as a result of the suspicion that the stalling of Honda Pilot, Honda Odyssey, Acura TLX, and Acura MDX halted when it reached a complete stop.

In 2022, Toyota was affected by class action lawsuits with multibillion USD claims due to production of emissions, which these vehicles: Prado, HiLux, and Fortuner produced between 2015 and 2020, due to faulty diesel particulate filters. Our planet is in a ramshackle climate situation, and this dirty business only makes the case even worse.

Automakers are supposed to tell the public if they detect any product defect during normal testing of their products.

Nissan North America has to pay the highest compensation it ever paid – $231 million – in an auto defect case involving 2004 Infinity QX56.

What is a Defective Vehicle?

This is a question often asked by the car buyer before the purchase and the manufacturer has to define what are the points that constitute a defective product.

According to DueJustice.com, a defective product in a vehicle is designed for a specific purpose, usually safety, but malfunctions. Common vehicle defects include:

 • Battery issues
 • Seat belts
 • Airbags
 • Tires
 • Steering wheel issues
 • Braking system failure
 • Malfunctioning fuel systems
 • Door latch failures
 • Helmets
 • Lights

Battery Issues

How to Identify Vehicle Defects

It is not unusual for your vehicle to develop a fault. But if the problem persists, then your vehicle may be defective. You may also notice some issues with the car, which may not be the case with similar models manufactured by other brands.

Here are some ways to discover if your vehicle is defective:

Airbag Indicator

Airbag failure to deploy is dangerous. It can result in the death of the vehicle occupants. Defective airbags can also deploy unnecessarily, causing injuries.

BMW E46 Airbag Light ON
E46 BMW 3 Series Airbag Light ON

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that standard functioning airbags save more than 50,000 people’s lives yearly.

Airbags are designed to deploy during crashes to prevent the upper part of the body from hitting the vehicle’s interior, such as the steering wheel.

They are designed to work with the seat belt.

If your airbag is defective, you will likely see an alert on your dashboard. This signifies your airbag will not deploy during crashes.

Faulty sensors, defective electrical components, and severed wiring are some of the leading causes of airbag defects.

The listed vehicles by NHTSA pertaining to Takata airbag defect can be found on these website address. You can select whether your vehicle is on the recall list or not; the website will then show you whether or not it is eligible for the recall.

An airbag problem was found to be a result of ordinary airbags not working when heat and humidity alternating for a certain period.

Unusual Fuel and Oil Consumption

Every vehicle has a stipulated fuel and oil consumption rate. If your vehicle is consuming more than normal, and there are no leaks or damaged parts, then there is probably a defect.

High Oil Consumption Issue
High Oil Consumption

The cause of the abnormal consumption could be a faulty pump or a defect in the engine.

If a defect causes the issue, the consumption will continue no matter how much fixing you do on the vehicle.

Some Toyota vehicles with excessive oil consumption defects include:

 • 2007-2009 Camry
 • 2007-2011 Camry Hybrid
 • 2007-2008 Solara
 • 2009-2011 Corolla
 • 2009-2013 Matrix
 • 2006-2008 Rav4
 • 2007-20010 Scion Tc
 • 2008-2015 Scion Xb

In 2017, VW came to the public attention announcing that 281,000 vehicles were recalled because of a failure in the fuel pump. The affected cars are Volkswagen Passat CC which is the luxury sedan model produced by Volksvagen between 2009 – 2016, and Passat & Passat Wagons made by the same company between 2006 – 2010.

For instance, in 2019, EPA required Volkswagen to change its fuel economy figures again on eight Audi, Bentley, and Porsche models after the investigation indicated that the company used a special software to overclaim the miles-per-gallon figures.

Excessive Noise

A car having some problems will make extra sounds when the engine is started. It could be by sound components from around the engine, for instance, a heat pump. Such occurrence might just interfere with the charging process.

Another assumption is that this issue can also be from a problematic steering wheel. He may see a problem with the steering wheel while controlling it.

In the last survey, 13,000 trucks and SUVs electric maker Rivian in 2022 recalled cars with steering wheel defect. The company acknowledged the fact that drivers would most likely experience unusually high levels of lightning, vibroacoustic resonance, or noise from the front suspension.

Faulty Software

Automakers deploy software to improve drivers’ overall experience. These sophisticated technologies improve safety, infotainment, and luxury experience.

Software is responsible for monitoring critical functions of the car and alerts whenever there is an abnormality.

Faulty software could cause injury, instead of protecting the driver and other car occupants.

Such defects may cause brake failure, airbag failure, unplanned interruption of battery power supply, disabled electronic stability control system, and unexpected engine shut-off.

BMW, for instance, has issued a voluntary recall for more than 14,000 vehicles from the iX, i4, and i7 lineups (2022-2023 model year), due to concerns over the electronic software controls inside the batteries.

The automobile company stated that the faulty software may cause an unplanned power supply interruption, increasing the risk of a crash.

Volkswagen Golf MK 8 eTSI Review https://automotivesblog.com/volkswagen-golf-mk-8-etsi-review/ https://automotivesblog.com/volkswagen-golf-mk-8-etsi-review/#respond Sat, 15 Aug 2020 20:16:14 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=2516 More]]> One of the world’s best-selling cars of all time was launched in 1974 when we had the three-day week. The Mk2 came out in 1983 when the first compact disc was sold in the UK. And here we are 37 years further on with this latest Golf, now up to Mk8. Like its predecessor, it is built on VW’s highly adaptable MQB platform that’s also used in dozens of Audis, Skodas, and Seats.

It hasn’t been dramatically changed for this new Golf but the car has grown 29mm in length, 10mm in width, and 4mm in height – making it harder to park.

Any styling changes are subtle. The headlamps are shallower and more contemporary, and all Golfs now have five doors. There will be an estate along later as well as a GTI and even hotter R model.

Golf MK 8 eTSI 2

The big changes are all inside with a brand-new digital dashboard that features a 10.3in digital instrument cluster and an 8.25in or optional 10in central touchscreen for the infotainment and many of the car’s systems.

There’s a new multifunction steering wheel that’s refreshingly logical to use. There are very few physical buttons and switches as virtually everything is controlled via the touchscreen, including heating and ventilation, and driving modes. There’s a slider that controls the audio volume but it’s a bit hit and miss. The optional voice control system should help.

There’s some evidence of cost-cutting on this new-generation Golf. Some are subtle – lack of gas struts for the bonnet and matt rather than body-colored paint on its underside. But inside there’s quite a lot of hard plastic, and the door bin is lined with felt where you can see it, but not on the edge that you can’t, so oddments will still rattle about.

Golf MK 8 eTSI 3

A wide range of powerplants is available and there’s a pure electric version on its way – the upcoming VW ID.3. There are a couple of 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engines, a 1.5-liter four-cylinder, and a two-liter diesel unit with a choice of two power outputs. The petrol-powered cars are available with mild-hybrid and it’s one of these that we’re testing.

Priced at 34.500 USD Life-spec test car is the 1.5-liter four-cylinder producing 148bhp, via a seven-speed DSG auto gearbox. Four-wheel drive is available as an option on certain Golf models. It’s an excellent powertrain, especially if you’ve been put off from buying a diesel car and don’t have off-street parking which makes owning a plug-in hybrid impractical.

Golf MK 8 eTSI 4

The eTSI powertrain (as it’s badged) features a belt-driven 48v starter/generator unit that enables brake energy regeneration, a more efficient start/stop function, and also add extra torque to aid with acceleration.

The car overall has all the characteristics that a city car need besides a hefty size but not too big and enough power to keep the mpg high and the speedometer just as high.

Volkswagen T-Roc Convertible? https://automotivesblog.com/volkswagen-t-roc-convertible/ https://automotivesblog.com/volkswagen-t-roc-convertible/#respond Fri, 14 Aug 2020 19:49:04 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=2523 More]]> Perhaps someone at VW is a huge admirer of the Range Rover Evoque convertible which, unless I’m missing something, is the world’s only other convertible crossover. I’m no great fan of that car, either.

It’s claimed the T-Roc is a four-seater, which it is as long as the adults in the back are below average height.

You do get two Isofix fittings too so child seats can be safely used. But with the roof in place, you lose some rear headroom over the normal T-Roc.

The boot holds 284 liters of luggage whether the convertible top is up or down.

If you ignore the more expensive Evoque, the T-Roc cabriolet’s nearest direct rivals are the Audi A3 cabriolet and BMW 2-Series cabriolet.

Volkswagen T Roc Cabriolet 2

Against these two, the VW stacks up well because both the Audi and BMW are badly compromised on rear space, can’t accommodate lanky passengers in comfort and neither have particularly large boots.

Not surprisingly, and reassuringly for that matter, some serious strengthening has taken place. The A-pillars have been made stronger and there’s a pop-up roll bar in case of the unthinkable.

But these features have sent the T-Roc’s weight northwards, with like-for-like versions of the cabriolet weighing around 190kg more than the normal T-Roc.

Our test car weighs 1,540kg – interestingly 145kg lighter than an A3 cabriolet fitted with the same engine and gearbox as this model.

Only two engines are offered – a 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 113bhp and a 1.5-liter with 148bhp featuring cylinder deactivation.

Volkswagen T Roc Cabriolet 3

There are also only two trim levels: Design and R-Line. The range starts at 35.700 USD for the 1.0 Design but by the time you’ve moved up to our car’s R-Line trim and a 1.5-litre engine we’re paying 43.200 USD.

That’s not so bad until you start picking a host of options in our car which adds 9.000 USD.

There are bright color options available for the inside trim, but ours is boring grey. Along with the rest of the black leather, cloth, and plastic, it makes the interior look dull. Optional blue or yellow trim would lift it.

Apart from that, the interior is well made and attractive. Infotainment and digital instruments are standard on this top-spec model and are the same ones you’ll find on posh Polos.

I’d imagine the combination of the car’s curb weight and a full load of passengers and luggage would give the less powerful of the two engines a hard time.

2021 Audi S3 Previewed Ahead Geneva with New Quattro AWD System https://automotivesblog.com/2021-audi-s3-previewed-ahead-geneva-with-new-quattro-awd-system/ https://automotivesblog.com/2021-audi-s3-previewed-ahead-geneva-with-new-quattro-awd-system/#respond Sun, 23 Feb 2020 12:18:57 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=1680 More]]> The German-based Audi carmaker is preparing its new fleet for an official display at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, which will open its gates on the March 3rd. One of the new models is the long-expected 2021 Audi S3, which has been recently previewed in a couple of photos and details.

Following a series of tests on the track in Germany, the new Audi A3 is almost complete now and ready to be unveiled next month in Geneva, the model coming with new improvements in terms of design and not only. However, just before the big event, a couple of journalists decided to take the sports car out for a spin in Sao Miguel, Portugal.

As we can depict from the media gallery below, the new 2021 Audi A3 will come with new changes around the camouflage areas. For instance, the front is set to be wider and is fitted with new corner vent clusters on the sides. It is also complemented with the carmaker`s latest headlight design.

However, the major change is the car`s more advanced Quattro all-wheel drive system, which provides increased fuel economy or enhances the car`s driving capabilities and speed. The system is fully-variable and features a new multi-place clutch pack. Thanks to that, the engine`s entire power is sent to the rear axle, which is a major change compared with the previous engine, which sent only half of its power to the rear. It also adjusts the distribution towards the front and rear more accurately.

Mechanically, the new 2021 Audi A3 is more advanced, thanks to the new suspension system, which now comes with optional adaptive dampers, providing thus improved response. The handling is also improved, as the car uses a new variable steering setup that works in tandem with a more powerful electric motor. As for the steering ratio, this is positioned right in the centre, providing just 2.5 turns from lock to lock. That lowers the steering weight during low speed, allowing an easy parking. At higher speeds, the steering wheel provides better stance and grip.

All these mechanical characteristics make the 2021 Audi A3 an “all-new model”, as the German based carmaker calls it. It still rides on the VW Group`s MQB platform, with the same width, track and wheelbase. However, as aforementioned, thanks to the more advanced Quattro all-wheel drive system, the car completely changed in terms of driving dynamics.

Underneath the skin, the 2021 Audi A3 also comes with an improved 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine, which now churns out 228kW and 400 Nm of torque. This means an increase in torque of around 20 Nm over the current model. The power and torque will be sent to the wheels via a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch auto as optional.

Prices and full specs will be revealed at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show next month. Until then, please take a closer look at the 2021 Audi A3 while performing some track tests in camouflage, in Sao Miguel, Portugal.

2020 VW Golf GTI Confirmed for Geneva, This March https://automotivesblog.com/2020-vw-golf-gti-confirmed-for-geneva-this-march/ https://automotivesblog.com/2020-vw-golf-gti-confirmed-for-geneva-this-march/#respond Thu, 16 Jan 2020 19:28:41 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=1571 More]]> Volkswagen Group launched the 2020 Golf last year and it was just a matter of time until the GTI version would be announced for an official debut. Now, a report from Autocar has confirmed that the GTI will arrive this March, at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, while the new Golf R will be shown at the 2020 Goddwood Festival of Speed, this July.

Compared with the standard Golf model which is available only in Europe, both the GTI and the R will be sold in the United States. Prices are yet to be known at this moment.

The new 2020 Volkswagen GTI has little to do with the standard model in terms of design, at least. It is much sportier, has a slimmer styling, and is more aggressive than ever. The upgrades include aggressive front bumper with larger intakes, huge wheels, dual exhaust pipes and red brake calipers.

The new Golf GTI sits on an improved version of the current MQB platform, being sold as a five-door hatchback only. Inside, the cabin comes with plenty of space for five passengers and is tweaked with enough cargo space for all of the occupants. Technologically, it features a new digital cockpit with head-up display as optional, along with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a new center console and an 8.25-inch touch-screen infotainment system.

Underneath the hood, the 2020 Volkswagen Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, with a standard 242 horsepower. The Clubsport version is more powerful, as it churns out around 287 horsepower. The power is sent to the wheels via a standard six-speed manual or an optional seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. For the Clubsport variant, the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h is done in less than 6.0 seconds. More than that, according to the same Autocar, the carmaker is also said to launch a hybrid variant later on.

As a reminder, the 2020 Volkswagen Golf represents the eight-generation of the gorgeous model, putting thus an end to the seventh-gen model that first emerged on the market in 2014. Compared to the previous one, it comes with a lot of mechanical improvements. Technology and aesthetics have also been improved.

As for powertrains under the hood, the new Golf is launched with no less than five hybrids, with three of them using a 48-volt mild-hybrid unit, producing 109 horsepower, 129 horsepower, and 148 horsepower. Two plug-in hybrids closely follow, with a 13-kilowatt-hour battery with 210 horsepower and 241 horsepower, respectively.

Conventional motorizations include a 1.0-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine, with two powers – 89 horsepower and 109 horsepower, respectively, along with two variants of a 1.5-liter turbo flat-four with 114 horsepower and 148 horsepower. On the diesel side, there is a 2.0-liter flat-four pot with 114 horsepower and 148 horsepower.

Sharing with the GTI is a number of advanced driver assist systems, like blind spot monitor, forward collision warning, auto-dimming rearview mirror, high-beam control and lane-keeping system. Technologically, it shares the same gadgetries as the Golf GTI and Golf R.

Full details and prices of the new 2020 Volkswagen GTI will be known at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show!

2020 VW T6 (Multivan) by ABT Sportsline https://automotivesblog.com/2020-vw-t6-multivan-by-abt-sportsline/ https://automotivesblog.com/2020-vw-t6-multivan-by-abt-sportsline/#respond Thu, 16 Jan 2020 19:12:10 +0000 https://automotivesblog.com/?p=1531 More]]> Even if the 2020 Volkswagen T6 (Multivan) was released on the market last year, the gorgeous models has already received appreciation from different tuning companies, that find it way too attractive to leave it untouched. Its exquisite design leaves enough room for modifications, while under the hood, the engine can receive a lot of mods too.

The model in question has received the visit of the renowned tuning firm ABT Sportsline, which has added a power kit that considerably increase the van`s power.

It is the 2.0-liter TDI diesel variant that powers the T6 with 150 PS and 340 Nm of torque. However, with the tuner`s new engine control kit, the power has been raised to a good 180 PS and 400 Nm of torque. Later on, the tuner is also rumored to work its magic on another power raise, which would bring the van to no less than 126 PS and 490 Nm of torque. This would be applied to the 199 PS and 450 Nm of torque variant.

Mechanically, the 2020 VW T6 by ABT Sportsline has received a height adjustable suspension kit by Blistein. Customers can also opt for the tuner`s own suspension springs which considerably drops the car`s body by up to 70mm.

Besides the new power kit, the van has also been customized at the exterior. This refer to updated front and rear bumpers, as well as a new set of wheels, measuring 8.5×19-inch DR and 9×20-inch GT; the latter ones can be had in matte black with diamond machined finish, with glossy black with diamond machined flange.

Below you can take a look at the couple of photos we have with the 2020 VW T6 Multivan by ABT Sportsline! Enjoy!

This isn’t ABT`s only take on a T6 van, the tuning company also working its magic on the pre-facelifted T6

As a reminder, the facelifted 2020 VW T6 was officially announced last year in Amsterdam; we are dealing with the reveal of the Multivan top of the line model, which completes the entire T6 lineup. The Bulli, as it is also called, is a high-end model with a luxury feel, thanks to the new front end with wide radiator grille, new headlights with LEDs, new bumper, as well as six new alloy wheels, seven two-tone paintwork finishes and six exterior colours.

The luxury feel is brought inside the cabin and perfectly blends in with the van`s practicality. The 2020 Multivan features the carmaker`s new Digital Cockpit and the new Modular Infotainment Matrix systems (MIB1 and MIB3). There is also the online connectivity unit (OCU) which connects all infotainment systems and which comes with an integrated eSIM with Internet functions and services.

As for practicality, the interior features a new steering wheel with a new multifunction unit, with a View button that allows the driver to switch between different settings found in the Digital Cockpit. There is also a new shelf just in front of the driver and a much wider open storage bin. Other features also include some cup holders near the A-pillars and larger tray for smartphone.
