The dos and don’ts of driving are many. Using Your Phone Without It in a Fixed Position
There is quite a lot of uncertainty about when phone usage will be legal on the road, but nobody wants to risk getting caught or causing an accident for other drivers.
It is okay to use a phone as sat-nav while it is placed in a fixed position; however, using a phone while it is not in a fixed position is both illegal and dangerous. This may bring an £200 fine plus six points or in fact a disqualification if you have been driving for less than two years.
In order to stay safe while surfing for your next ride, try to find one with a lot of onboard technology so you will not have to use your phone at all.
Flashing Lights to Give Way
Most drivers will flash their lights in order to give way to another driver. Although it may appear as a friendly and effective way to communicate with other road users, it is illegal, as you should only flash your headlights to signal other drivers that you are present.
Splashing a Pedestrian
People have witnessed or may have suffered from being splashed by a car going through a huge puddle. Apart from feeling guilty about soaking some poor pedestrian, you can end up with 9 points on your license and a £5,000 fine.
The reason is that it is in effect classified as driving without due care or attention so do make sure that you pay extra attention the next time you are out when it is raining.
Parking on the Wrong Side at Night
It is challenging to find a parking lot at night, however, you should never park on the street side at night and this is actually for a very good reason. This is because your lights shine into oncoming cars and may cause an accident.
Parking on the wrong side will lead to a penalty charge notice, which is dissimilar to a fixed penalty notice since you do not get any points and the fee is reduced if you pay within 14 days.
