It’s simple: raise the suspension to increase the ride height so bits like exhausts aren’t torn off. Then add some plastic cladding around the wheel arches, faux protective plates under the front and rear bumpers, and off you go.

Which is exactly what Toyota has done with the Corolla Trek.

The suspension has been tweaked to give an extra 20mm of ride height and underbody protection is fitted.

The Trek is a two-wheel drive with no off-road biased traction control system.

Neither is it fitted with anything other than standard road tires. But to be fair to Toyota, increased ground clearance is all most customers, even the active ones, will need.

There is no choice of trim level, but what you do get to choose is engine size. Both the 1.8-liter and 2.0-liter petrol versions are part of a hybrid powertrain using Toyota’s well-proven reliable technology.

The smaller engine produces 122bhp and the larger, 184bhp. The price jump from the 1.8 to 2.0 isn’t large – the less powerful Trek is 38.000 USD and the 2.0-liter 40.300 USD.

On a finance or PCP scheme, I doubt you’d notice the difference.

We’re testing the 2.0-liter in white with the Trek black 17-inch alloy wheels. The Corolla is a looker, a million times more appealing than the dull Auris that went before.

All that car had to go for it was incredible reliability, which I’ll admit is pretty important.

Those black wheels and plastic cladding do give the Corolla Touring Sports a more functional look and the 20mm increase in ride height adds something too.

Until recently, Toyota launched the new model for the Supra after almost two decades. Motor enthusiasts were excited about this new Supra release. However, due to the fact that it shares the exact same chassis, engine, and interior as the BMW Z4, people were disappointed. It received much hate for its relatively underpowered engine as compared to its past rivals, such as the Nissan GTR. But Stephen Papadakis, a racing team owner, had plans to modify his brand new 2020 Toyota Supra. He had planned to turbocharge his Supra to a 1000 bhp mark and break the stereotype about this B58 i-6 engine.

He had planned to attach a large turbocharger to his Supra, specifically the BorgWarner EFR 9280 Turbo, which was capable of delivering 110 lb/min of peak flow rate at about 117k rpm when spooled to the limit.

Attaching such a powerful turbo to this engine needed verification that most of the engine parts would be able to deliver such a huge amount of power. So he took his brand new Supra and totally dismantled its engine to its bare bones. Observing the multiple components, many of them were capable of handling such a huge amount of power.

Some major parts also needed to be swapped out, so he went with forging new pistons and rods for this purpose. He also needed to redesign the intake manifold to support the air intercooler he intended to use. It was also needed to support the direct fuel injection right into the intake manifold, which the stock system lacked. So they ended up laser sintering the intake manifold into pieces and welded them together.

Many of the stock parts, such as the crankshaft, head gasket, piston rings, camshaft, rod, and main bearings, seemed to be able to handle the new power limit, he intended to set. This reflects the factor of safety that Toyota & BMW take into account while designing their engines.

So after repacking the engine, it was time for Dyno to test it, along with the new turbo. They had to make their own adapter for attaching this engine to the dyno due to how new the engine was. He started boosting it from 10 psi and checked for any trouble in the engine after each run. Then, after multiple trials of pushing this engine, he gave it some final touches to fix the minor flaws that appeared in these runs.

Then, at about 42 psi of boost, it managed to hit the 1009 hp mark. It was a great accomplishment for Papadakis. And now his final goal was to prepare the rest of the car to handle this 1000 hp engine. He had to upgrade most of the components in the car, such as the transmission, wiring, ECU, chassis, brakes, etc. This shows that the new Supra’s engine still carries its name by supporting such a huge mod.

Toyota Trek has been given an off-road touch by raising its suspension about 20nm. It is also visible with the added plastic cladding all around the car, along with the bigger 17-inch bespoke rims. Which makes it 20 mm longer and 15 mm wider than the rest of the variants.

This new variant, just like the whole Corolla lineup, seems to be a practical car, for a family’s usage. It adds privacy glass at the rear and provides Fog lamps and LED headlamps as standard.

The Corolla touring sports estate already has a sportier and more streamlined design coupled with its quite aggressive looking front. It will stand out from the rest with its honeycomb styled front grill, which will further add to the aesthetics of this car.

The Toyota Trek gets a few updates in its interior as well. It will be fitted with Trek door sills to match up with the off-road theme of the car. It will be coming in two toned, brown, fabric seats along with some wooden looking interior trims. However, these seats can also be upgraded to leather ones as an option.

The Toyota Corolla Trek will be available with hybrid engines only in two versions. Twin powertrains consist of a 120 bhp 1.8L petrol hybrid engine and a 178 bhp 2.0L petrol hybrid engine, both linked to a CVT transmission. The 1.8L option will provide the customer with the fuel economy of 56.5 mpg, the 2.0L version will give him 53.3 mpg. In overall, these petrol hybrid versions are very fuel economically while compared to diesel offerings from other manufacturers and reduced emisions as a bonus. The 1.8L engine is powerful enough to accelerate to 62 mph from rest in 11.1 seconds, and it does the reverse in 8.1 seconds.
